Hello and Welcome to my little crafty blog! Thank you for taking the time to come and learn something about me and a little bit about the story behind this place.
Lets start with the basics: My Name is Zoe and I make things with yarn.
I'm a 24 years old living in Chelmsford, Essex in the UK. I work full time and basically spend most mornings, lunch breaks, evenings and weekends crafting.
This is my partner Ash who aside from doing the occasional cross stitch pieces, studies full time. He has been and is my biggest support and it feels as if in the short few years we've been together that we have been to hell and back. He helps me moderate this blog (he's basically does all the techy bits that need doing to keep this website running smoothly).
In May 2017, we adopted our gorgeous black cat named Shadow. He's a massive pain who loves to run and attack my feet and I'm sure most days he is plotting my demise but we love him regardless. He's usually behind the scene with all of my creations, stealing and eating the yarn, or as below... posing for a selfie whilst I'm busying trying to get nice pictures for the blog...
Shortly after Shadow arrived on the scene, our little family expanded again and our fluffy puppy cocker spaniel Pedro came to steal our hearts.
My time is now divided between my four loves; crafting, Shadow, Pedro and my bearded man.
So why have you started this blog?
I started designing my own patterns summer of 2016, when I opened my Etsy shop and started taking on custom orders.
I get a lot of questions on Instagram about where my patterns come from and when they're not my own I'm more than happy to point you in the right direction but I decided to share the patterns that I'm creating and that I love.
I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to pattern designing and I'm still learning knitting and crochet techniques too, so if you notice any little mistakes please let me know!
What inspired you to knit and crochet?
I've always loved anything and everything creative. Art Attack and Neil Buchanan were my favourite as a child, I wanted to try everything he did on the show and would become so upset when it turned out nothing like his!
My journey to knitting wasn't intentional, I was on my commute to work one day I saw a woman standing and knitting on the train and I was instantly mesmerised.
That evening I bought a basic knitting for beginners book "The Knitty Gritty" by Aneeta Patel (which is an amazingly easy book to follow!), some cheap plastic needles and some cheap yarn on Amazon for practice.
Later that week I made my first knitted square... well it was more trapezoid in shape than square and had a bunch of holes from dropped stitches.
Crochet came approximately a year or so later. I was inspired by my best friends sister and all the amazing amigurumi figures she was making. She made the cutest little Mini Me's for her family to carry around. The same friend bought my favourite bamboo hooks and a few books on crochet techniques which got me started.
Crochet didn't come much easier for me. My first amigurumi project I was so confused I slipped all the stitches thinking that was how you did a single crochet, it will come as no surprise that this first project ended up a knotted, tangled mess.
It didn't take long after learning to knit and crochet to discover what a supportive and kind community the online maker community is. Nowadays I find the inspiration to continue learning from you guys. Seeing your makes on Instagram, Facebook, Ravelry etc inspires me to no end. My favourite part of the creative process? Seeing how you guys use my patterns to make sometime unique of your own.
Anyway I think that just about sums everything up! I hope you take the time to browse my patterns and find something you love. If you do decide to try one of them out then I would love to see how it turns out!
