  • 1 x 100g of Bernat Velvet in White
  • US Size 10.5 (6.5mm) 16″ circular knitting needles.
  • US Size 10.5 (6.5mm) Double Pointed Knitting needles (optional)
  • Tapestry sewing needle
  • Scissors
  • Large pom pom maker (optional)
  • Faux fur pom pom (optional)

  • CO – Cast on
  • K – Knit
  • DEC – Decrease
  • FO – Fasten off

Difficulty: Beginner

Gauge: 11 stitches and 19 rows = 4 inches or 10 cm

In this pattern, two strands of yarn are used together to create a chunky effect.

CO 60 stitches using white yarn. Use two strands of the white velvet together to create a chunky yarn.

Make sure the stitches are not twisted and join in the round, place marker.

Knit all stitches until your piece measures 6 inches/ 15 cm from cast on edge.

Change to red yarn.

Now we will create the folded brim for the hat.

Fold the piece in half with purl sides facing, as shown below.

Pick the first stitch of the cast-on edge (next to the yarn end). Pull this stitch to the left knitting needle and knit these two stitches together. Continue until all cast-on edge stitches are worked.

Knit all stitches until red section measures 4 inches (7 inches total from edge). Move on to the decrease.

Pom Pom

To finish this hat you will need to create a pom pom. For mine I used the crochet pom pom – pattern available here.

You can also make your own with a pom pom maker or purchase a large faux fur pom pom!

Whichever you decide to make, sew to the top.

If you make your own Santa Hat with this pattern, I would love to see it! You can share your photos on my Facebook page, tag me on Twitter (@zocreates) or Instagram (@zoe.creates) and you can use the hashtag #zoecreates.
