This bag is the perfect shopper/ market tote. It is strong and versatile.
For the tote, I used Hobbycraft’s “Return of the Mac” yarn in Mustard and Ecru. Alternatively you can use any chunky cotton yarn.
What you’ll need
- 6mm Crochet Hook
- Approx 300g of chunky cotton yarn in mustard – I got mine here
- Approx 100g of chunky cotton yarn in cream – I got mine here
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- CH – Chain
- SS – Slip Stitch
- SC – Single crochet
- DC – Double crochet
- INC – Increase
- BLO – Back loop Only
- FO – Fasten off
Finished dimensions: 18 inches (height incl. strap) x 15 inches (width).
Gauge: 10 stitches and 7 rows = 4 inches or 10 cm
Difficulty: Intermediate to experienced
This pattern uses American crochet terminology
For the purpose of this pattern chain stitches do NOT count as stitches.
CH32. Stitches are worked around both sides of the CH.
Round 1: Start in the 3rd CH from the hook, DC Inc, DC 28, DC 5 in the last stitch. Continue on the other side of the CH, DC 28, DC 3 in the last stitch. Join work with a SS and CH2. (66)
Round 2: DC inc in the next 2 stitches, DC 28, DC Inc in the next 5 stitches, DC 28, Inc in the next 3 stitches. Join work with a SS and CH2 (76)
Round 3: BLO DC 76. Join work with a SS and CH2 (76)
Round 4: SC 76. Join work with a SS and CH2 (76)
Round 5: DC 76. Join work with a SS and CH1 (76)
Rounds 6-17: Repeat rounds 4 and 5 (76)
Change to cream yarn.
Round 18: BLO SC 76. Join work with a SS and CH2 (76)
Round 19: Repeat round 5 (76)
Round 20: Repeat round 4 (76)
Round 21: Repeat round 5 (76)
Next we will make the straps, you can adjust these to ensure they are central if needed.
Round 22: SC 14, CH 28 and skip the next 14 DC’s from the previous round, SC 24, CH28 and skip the next 14 DC’s from the previous round, SC 10. Join work with a SS and CH2.
Round 23: DC 12, DC 28 around the CH created in round 19, DC 24, DC 28 around the CH created in round 19, DC 12. Join work with a SS and CH1 (104)
Round 24: SC 104. FO and create an invisible join. (104)
Weave in all ends.
