With winter closing in and the days colder and nights darker, I’ve been turning my attention to designs that encase warmth and cosiness to bring a little ray of sunshine in your day.
This design (and the design for my Zig Zag beanie) was made with two little rays of sunshine in mind.
When I saw the ‘Twist It Out‘ yarn from Hobbycraft I fell in love with the unique colours and super soft feel. I choose the ‘Pink’ colour for this project and I love how it’s almost pink with a splash of purple mixed in. This yarn is classified as super chunky and is 70% acrylic and 30% wool making it perfect for winter projects.
What you’ll need:
- 171 meters or 187 yards of any chunky weight yarn. For this project I used 3 x 100g ‘Do The Twist’ in Pink from my local Hobbycraft – available here
- US 11 (8mm) Knitting needles
- Large Pom Pom maker
- Large sewing needle
- Scissors
Abbreviations:
- K – Knit
- P – Purl
- * – Repeat sequence
Notes:
Approximate time to knit this scarf: 2-3 hours.
Difficulty: Easy/ Beginner
Gauge: 10 stitches and 13 rows = 4 inches or 10 cm
This pattern uses a long tail cast on.
The ZigZag design of this pattern is made by contrast between the knit and purl stitches and is knit over a 10 row repeat.

Pom Pom
Using a large size pom-pom maker make two pom-pom’s.
Assembly
In order to attach the two pom-poms to the scarf, follow the below steps for the cast on and cast off edge
1. Using the tail and a sewing needle, sew the edge of the scarf using the running stitch;
2. Pull yarn tight;
3. Sew pom-pom to both edges.
